because I’m a fan…

I feel like it is time for me to move on but I just can’t.

Ryan Lochte was in Maine (I think?) talking at a YMCA the other day.

Am I seeing a trace of facial hair? Please, no.

BEVERLY — Long before Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte was scheduled to appear at the Beverly YMCA Sterling Center yesterday, his young followers flocked to the gymnasium, anxiously awaiting a sighting of the popular swimmer.

It was a rare opportunity to see Lochte, who won gold medals in both the 2004 Olympics in Athens and the Olympic Games in China this past summer.

From the youngest fans like 8-year-old Alec Powers of Beverly, who has only been swimming a couple of years, to the oldest getting ready to go off to college, Lochte’s audience was thrilled that he would be talking to them.

Lochte is from upstate New York and swam for the University of Florida Gators, where he was a seven-time NCAA champion and two-time Swimmer of the Year.

Two years ago Lochte set American records for the 200-yard IM (individual medley) and 200-yard backstroke. In Beijing, he took bronze in the 400 IM behind his famous teammate Michael Phelps, who finished first in world record time en route to a record-breaking eight gold medals in the Games. Lochte also took home gold in the 200-meter backstroke with a new world record time and as a member of the 4×200 winning freestyle relay team.

The highlight of the Olympics in China?

“Honestly, it was the all you can eat at McDonald’s,” the laid back Lochte immediately replied. “When you are competing, you need 8,000 to 12,000 calories a day so that’s something to look forward to.”

Lochte has been swimming since he was 8 years old, starting out for MCC (Monroe Community College) in New York where his father was the head coach. He is best known for his speed and strength kicking underwater, and he knows many of the youngsters listening to his experiences and watching the demonstration in the pool hope someday to reach the heights he has attained.

Helping Phelps win a record-setting eight gold medals was something he took in stride.

“I was just trying not to screw up,” he said. “We all wanted to help him and the whole team. There were a lot of good guys there, and for the most part the main competition came from others on the US team. I always try not to think about swimming when I’m getting ready. The calmer I am, the faster I’ll be. I try not to focus on anything to do with swimming both before and during a race. I usually think about what I am going to eat after it’s over. That works well for me.”

Teddy Millett, a senior at Marblehead High, and Brian Brennan, a junior at St. John’s Prep, wanted to pick up some pointers to help in the upcoming season. Both intend to continue their swimming careers in college and plan to go to the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2012.

“I’m pretty excited to meet (Lochte) because he swims at the highest level there is,” said Brennan, a 16 year old from Beverly. “I do get anxious before the big meets, and I hope to pick his brain and get some good tips.”

Millett said that if he starts to feel nervous before a big race he talks to one of his teammates.

“If I think about it too much I will have a bad race,” said Millett, who hoped to pick up some pointers on improving his backstroke from Lochte, who said his favorite races was the 200-yard IM. “When I’m swimming for the (YMCA) Sharks I usually talk to Brian (Brennan) and tune everything else out.”

Lochte intends to compete in the next two Olympics, which means years of getting up early and doing tons of training.

“I’ve been in break mode, but starting tomorrow I will be back in the water with my regular training schedule,” said Lochte. “I wouldn’t do it if I wasn’t having fun. The biggest thing I can tell all these kids is to have fun – whatever they do.”

And who watched Oprah? I pretty much cried the entire episode.

just a note…

October 22, 2008 · 2 Comments

This is going to be the worst World Series ever.

I can’t cheer for the Phillies beacuse what self-respecting Mets fan would do that? My mother from Philly is a little pissed about that, but honestly. I just can’t And then the RAYS! True, I’m from Florida, but they’re like… ew. And they have one shitty looking field.

oh and Swim Aids is this exciting blog about these girls who go to like every swim meet and talk to all the swimmers and I’m so jealous of them. They’re not groupies… they’re aids. Like in Almost Famous.

Update: THE BACKSTREET BOYS sang the national anthem! But Kevin isn’t with them anymore. Sad. I want an N*Sync reunion, but Justin’s super fame ruins those chances.

He has really been whoring himself out.

Anyway! I found this picture (why haven’t I seen it before?) and Phelps looks suprisingly good so I will share.

NO NASTIA!

September 11, 2008 · 4 Comments

Say it ain’t so!

The golden children Lochte and Liukin were at some fashion show together, so the question is what’s going on there? It better be nothing, Nastia! It better be nothing.

Though if this was true, I would say 1) Awkward couple!  2) I think Nastia looks really pretty there and 3)though I would hate her for all of eternity, I think Lochte would have made a good choice.

They are so totally doing it.

Why do his jackets always look so big?? And why do men go to fashion shows?

and thanks for the info, Kitty!

Phelps actually looks kind of cute in this picture? Awkward angle, I know.

Phelps, you’re so lucky. You get to touch Lochte allll the time.

…man, I miss those days.

Oh and one more thing…

Bananaman is real!

and I know someone keeps searching “ryan lochte marijuana” on here. I don’t know if he does or not, so can’t help you there. We can only infer from interviews.

Lochte and Phelps… the relationship in pictures.

September 1, 2008 · 9 Comments

I should really go to sleep, but these pictures make me giggle so I will share them with you.

Haha, omggg.

yes, the three angles were necessary. I can’t find the one of Ryan resting his head on Michael. I loved that one.

….secret lovers….

NO! I would cry for days. Michael can have all the golds he wants, but not my Lochte.

and if that didn’t make you smile, maybe this will?

I don’t know, but…

August 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

now I kind of wish I knew more about Eamon Sullivan during the Olympics.

First of all, he has an adorable Australian accent, he sounds smart, and look what he said about his ex Stephanie Rice.

He says of the recent kiss news, “That’s her business and, now that we’re friends, it’s not something I have to worry about. She’s a mature girl and makes her own decisions and we’re just enjoying being friends and that’s something you just can’t take away.”

Aw, I love him. He’s sweet.

They were cute together. And Stephanie Rice is ridiculously pretty. I hate her! And she didn’t go all “OMG gross, ew, no!” when they asked if she kissed Phelps. Amanda Beard should be embarrassed. Not only does she really look like a man next to Rice, she also looks like even more of a bitch.

Quote from Perez Hilton.

In other news, what appears to be a would-be teenage suicide bomber turned herself into Iraqi police in Baquba. She says she was forced to by her family. That is too sad. To read the rest click here.

(And yes, I will be holding on to the Olympics for as long as I can.)

Beijing says goodbye.

August 25, 2008 · 1 Comment

Sad!

I absolutely loved this Olympics. And I decided to run through my favorite moments in no particular order-

1. Phelps touching the wall 1/100 of a second faster for his gold! I loved watching Mamma Phelps at the end of this one. She was too cute!!!

2. May and Walsh dominating the sand.

3. When Sasha Artemev captured the bronze on the pommel horse after two horrible routines. The American men winning a medal was a great under dog story with the Hamm twins gone. I was so happy for them. And how could you not love Jonathan Horton??

4. When Ryan Lochte won his individual gold. His dad was so happy!

5. Two words: Redeem team.

6. Shawn Johnson getting her gold, and seeing her parents reactions.

7. Nastia and Shawn going one, two.

8. Dara Torres winning a silver. And so close to that gold!

9. When Shelly Ann Fraser won her gold at the Bird’s Nest(I don’t know what event it was, but her smile was contagious)

10. When the American men owned the 4×200m freestyle relay. Phelps, Lochte, Vanderkaay, and Berens destroyed not only the comeptition, but the world record, as well, getting it under seven minutes.

But by far the most exciting moment ever…

11. “Go Jason, go Jason, go Jason, go Jason…” haha, again, I love Michael’s mom. It’s when Jason Lezak went into like… beast mode and BEAT THE FRENCH IN THE MOST AMAZING THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE! Plus, those French were talking trash about the Americans. YES! That race was amazing. And then Michael Phelps turned into the Hulk when he realized they won.

Oh, and I guess I forgot about Phelps winning his 8th gold, but that was pretty much a given that it was a highlight. That was fun to watch. There were so many other moments I loved…and pretty much when anyone cried that they won, it broke my heart and I was really happy. And I going to miss saying Watercube and Bird’s Nest!

I wanted to add more diversity here, buttt I really liked the swimming.

Adding  more about closing ceremonies laterrrr! School tomorrow so I’m going to go relax.
